ATLANTA - Anthony Witherspoon was fired Monday as Clark Atlanta University's basketball coach after a 10-15 season in which seven losses resulted from the use of two ineligible players.
The Panthers, who self-reported the ineligible players to the NCAA, had a 13-16 record the previous season. In nine years at Clark Atlanta, Witherspoon's teams were 231-182, including one NCAA Regional appearance.
``While we appreciate the effort coach Witherspoon made on behalf of the program, we felt like the men's basketball program was beginning to regress,'' athletics director Brenda Edmond said.
