More than 16% of Hall countians foreign-born

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Census Bureau says sixteen percent of people living in Hall County at the time of the 2000 Census were foreign-born. More than 87 percent of them are natives of Latin America; nearly eight percent were born in Asia.

Of the other foreign-born residents of Hall County, nearly three percent are natives of Europe. Nationwide, the Census Bureau now says eleven percent of U.S. citizens are natives of another country.

In raw numbers, 22,500 of Hall County's 139,000 residents are foreign-born; 19,658 were born in Latin America.
