ATLANTA - The Braves are confident that they can sign top draft choice Jeff Francoeur, who could demand a signing bonus of about $2 million.
Scouting director Roy Clark said Wednesday that if the team didn't think it could sign the Parkview High School star it would not have drafted him.
The largest bonus to a Braves draftee was one $1.75 million - to pitcher Matt Belisle in 1998.
Atlanta selected Francouer with the 23rd pick overall Tuesday in the first round.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Thursday that before he was drafted, Francouer told the Braves he would be willing to give up a football scholarship to Clemson to play for his hometown team.
