GAINESVILLE - The educational outlook for Hispanic students in Hall and the
surrounding counties just got a lot brighter at Gainesville College.
Gainesville College was awarded a $634,100 grant from The Goizueta Foundation to establish and support a comprehensive Hispanic/Latino Initiative which will build on the work that Gainesville College has already done in the Hispanic Community.
"I am convinced that the College's history and current activities directed to serving the area's Hispanic/Latino community were a significant factor in our receiving this grant," said Gainesville College President Martha T. Nesbitt.
In November of 2001, Gainesville College made the initial approach to the Goizueta Foundation by submitting a completed Organizational Overview Form.
The grant includes $232,500 to establish and support the Office of Hispanic Outreach and Development for three years.
The Hispanic Outreach Director will develop and implement a recruitment plan for the Hispanic community as well as serve as an on-campus contact and support for Gainesville college Hispanic students.
In addition, the Director will collaborate with area schools by acting as a liaison between area schools and Gainesville College.
"This grant provides for long-term benefits and outreach to the Hispanic community. I'm grateful that the people at The Goizueta Foundation listened to our proposal and recognized the needs that exist in Gainesville College's service area," Belinda Sauret said.
Gainesville College's Foundation will manage the grant.
Roberto C. Goizueta established The Goizueta Foundation in 1992 to provide financial assistance to educational and charitable institutions. Mr. Goizueta was Chairman, Board of Directors, and Chief Executive Officer of The Coca-Cola Company until his death in October 1997.
