Former Coweta sheriff dead at 79

NEWNAN - George Aaron Massey Sr. - who served 16 years as Coweta County sheriff - has died. He was 79 years old. <br> <br> Massey died of an aneurysm Monday at Kindred Hospital in Newnan. His funeral is at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Westside Baptist Church. McKoon Funeral Home is handling arrangements. <br> <br> Massey worked at McKoon Funeral Home after his stint as sheriff, which began in 1969. Coweta County Sheriff Mike Yeager said he turned to Massey for advice when he decided to run. <br> <br> ``Something I&#39;ve picked up from him is to be people-oriented, to listen to people regardless of who they are,&#39;&#39; Yeager said. <br> <br> Survivors include his wife, Freda W. Massey; daughters, Brenda Floyd of Newnan and Kathy Rush of Stone Mountain; a son, George Aaron Massey Junior of Newnan; stepdaughters, Karan Rawlins of Arlington, Texas, and Renee Rawlins of Hogansville; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
