CLEMSON, SOUTH CAROLINA - Terry Don Phillips, Clemson's recently named athletic director, won the job over Augusta State athletic director Clint Bryant, Southern Conference commissioner Danny Morrison and Clemson associate athletic director Bill D'Andrea.
That was the word from Clemson Thursday where spokeswoman Cathy Sams said the school released the names of the finalists in response to several Freedom of Information Act requests.
Phillips, who had been the Oklahoma State athletic director since 1994, was named to Clemson's vacancy June fourth. He officially begins July first, and replaces Bobby Robinson, who has been head of the athletic department for 17 years.
Bryant has been at Augusta State the past 12 years.
Morrison became Southern Conference president in December. Before that, he was a vice president and athletic director at Wofford.
When Robinson announced he was leaving in February, D'Andrea was considered the leading candidate from inside Clemson's athletic department. D'Andrea took over day-to-day operations of the football and men's basketball teams last October.
