MORGANTOWN - Chris Garnett of Decatur, Georgia, the only center left on the West Virginia basketball roster, has been released from his scholarship.

University athletic officials announced today that Garnett is transferring to another school.

The six-foot-ten rising junior from Decatur, Georgia, didn't tell WVU what school he's going to.

His transfer request came before John Beilein was named head coach in April, but was only recently approved.

Garnett played 24 games for the Mountaineers last season, starting twice and averaging 1.8 points and 2.3 rebounds.

He was suspended for a violation of team rules early in the season, then again for the rest of the season with only two games left.

Jabbar Young's request to be released from his scholarship was granted last month, and junior center Ales Chan has left school for personal reasons.

That leaves WVU -- which finished 8-20 last season -- with mainly perimeter players.
