DALLAS, GEORGIA - Authorities have uncovered a loosely-knit ring of con artists operating in Hall, Forsyth, and eight other north Georgia counties who are preying on private individuals trying to sell cars and trucks.
A Paulding County man told Channel 2 Action News he was victimized by a well-dressed man who gave him a fake certified check in exchange for a car he was trying to sell.
"I gave him the title, and he gave me a check and then I checked his identification and everything seemed to be fine," he said.
A Paulding sheriff's officer said most of the cons are carried out on people listing cars and trucks in such publications as Auto Trader.

"We have not seen an organized crime ring but a loosely-knit group of individuals in contact with some of our customers," said Robert Brand, Auto Trader's chief of security.
One person has been arrested in the case.
