Historic headstones vandalized in Floyd County

ROME - Several headstones dating to the 1800s were knocked over or broken in a Methodist cemetery in Floyd County. <br> <br> Members if the Mizpah United Methodist Church only recently discovered the damage in their church cemetery. Police said the vandalism could have happened as long ago as May 26. <br> <br> Several headstones dating back to the 1850s were knocked over. One dating to 1868 that marked the resting place of a child was broken in half. <br> <br> Most of the damaged graves belong to members of the Johnson and Harvey families, which figured prominently in Floyd County in the 1800s. <br> <br> ``The land the church was built on and sits on today was donated by the Johnson family before the Civil War,&#39;&#39; said John D. Brown, a member of the church and caretaker of the cemetery. <br> <br> Police have made no arrests.
