Loganville councilman's impeachment trial starts Tuesday

By
LOGANVILLE - The impeachment trial of Loganville City Councilman Danny Byrd is expected to start Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

It is unknown whether Byrd will attend the proceedings. He is being held at the Walton County Jail serving a 60-day jail term on charges of simple battery, criminal trespass, public drunkenness and harassing phone calls.

Tuesday's impeachment trial is the result of a 3-2 decision by city council members in response to a request asking to have Byrd removed from office.

Although Byrd was asked to resign by four of the five remaining city council members, he continued to attend city council meetings up until his incarceration on May 13.

If the council votes to impeach him, Byrd could continue attending city council meetings once released from jail if he chooses to appeal the decision.
