ATLANTA - Atlanta outfielder George Lombard returned from his injury rehab assignment Tuesday, but the Braves say a roster move wouldn't be made until at least Wednesday.
The oft-injured 26-year-old Lombard began the season on the disabled list with a strained right calf muscle. Last year, he had surgery to repair a broken bone in his right foot.
A second-round pick in 1994, the Atlanta native has played in just 51 games with the Braves. He missed a good portion of the 1999 season with a groin injury.
Since Lombard is out of options, he would have to clear waivers before he could be assigned to AAA Richmond. During his rehab, he hit .297 with four homers and 10 RBIs in 19 games for Richmond and AA Greenville.
