KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN - A 39-year-old Georgia woman who worked for the Herman Miller Company for 20 years has admitted defrauding her former employer of several hundred thousand dollars.
Donna Lang of Cumming pleaded guilty in March to a federal charge of mail fraud. U.S. District Judge Richard Enslen sentenced her Monday to 30 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
Lang was ordered to pay $625,000 in restitution to the Zeeland-based company. In her plea, she and the prosecution agreed that she defrauded Herman Miller of $500,000-$800,000 between January 1999 and August 2000.
She told authorities that she used the money for a down payment on a house and furnishings, new cars and a restaurant for her husband.
She worked as a furniture resale specialist for the business. She arranged for the refurbishing and sale of old furniture that Herman Miller took in after selling new furniture to customers.
The prosecution said she set up her own dummy company and then double-billed Herman Miller with fraudulent invoices for the work.
