Former Georgia star wins NFL's comeback player award

NEW YORK - Former Georgia star tailback Garrison Hearst of the San Francisco 49ers has won the Halas award as the NFL's comeback player of the year. <br>

Hearst rushed for 1,206 yards last season after missing two seasons with leg injuries. <br>
<br>
Hearst, whose career was in jeopardy after four operations following a broken leg in the 1999 playoffs, also won the AP's comeback player award in January. <br>
<br>
The Halas award was voted on by the Pro Football Writers of America. <br>
<br>
Other winners of PFWA awards included general manager Charley Casserly of the expansion Houston Texans; reporter and columnist Edwin Pope of the Miami Herald; and the Philadelphia Eagles' public relations department.
