ATLANTA - The baby daughter of Atlanta Braves second baseman Marcus Giles has died -- 16 days after her premature birth.
Lundyn Mae Giles weighed just one pound when she was delivered by Caesarean section on June 3 at Atlanta's Northside Hospital. She died Wednesday.
Because she was ten weeks premature, the infant had been in the neonatal intensive care section.
Braves spokesman Jim Schultz said Giles called during Wednesday night's Tigers-Braves game to inform the team of the death.
Giles is on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained ankle.
He was scheduled to go on a rehabilitation assignment to the minors earlier this month, but that was delayed so he could remain with his wife -- Tracy -- and the baby.
