ATLANTA - Needing to make a personnel move involving outfielder George Lombard, the Braves found a solution close at hand.
Atlanta traded Lombard to the Detroit Tigers Wednesday, about 90 minutes before the teams began the second game of their interleague series at Turner Field.
The Braves got relief pitcher Kris Keller, who pitched in one game this season for the Tigers before going on the disabled list May 31 with a strained right triceps.
The 26-year-old Lombard was taking batting practice with the Braves when he was told about the trade.
He flied out to right as a pinch-hitter for the Tigers in the eighth.
The oft-injured Lombard is an Atlanta native drafted in the second round in 1994.
He began the season on the disabled list with a strained right calf muscle. Last year, he had surgery to repair a broken bone in his right foot.
