Jailer killed in role-playing shooting, authorities say

ATLANTA - A Fulton County jailer who was acting out scenarios he learned in training accidentally shot and killed another jailer. <br> <br> Authorities say the shooting happened Sunday night in southwest Atlanta. <br> <br> A single gunshot killed 23-year-old Mychiska Patterson, a jailer who had worked for the Fulton County sheriff&#39;s department for two years. <br> <br> Twenty-eight-year-old Dean Ricketts was charged with involuntary manslaughter. <br> <br> Fulton County sheriff&#39;s Major Clarence Huber said Ricketts was training to become a full-fledged deputy. <br> <br> But as a jailer, he was not authorized to carry a firearm and the gun was not sheriff&#39;s department property. <br> <br> Atlanta police say the gun&#39;s magazine had been removed during the role-playing, but the round in the chamber had not been removed.
