ALBANY - Three days after bursting onto the scene at a Wal-Mart in southwest Georgia, newborn local celebrity Michael Jerrod Williams met his adoring public.

But he never opened his eyes to acknowledge the hubbub at his home, calmly yawning while flashbulbs went off all around him yesterday.

Who could blame him? He's had quite a chaotic life so far.

Nineteen-year-old Shenna Williams started feeling labor pains about 3 a.m. Saturday. Since the pains weren't too bad, she and her mother, Katherine, thought they had plenty of time and stopped by Wal-Mart on the way to the hospital to buy a disposable camera for the birth.

While her mother was inside the store looking for the camera, Shenna's pain increased.

Katherine said, '' I heard someone scream out. I said, 'Lord, that's my child.'''

By the time she made it back to the front of the store, her daughter was on a bench by the cash registers preparing for birth. Katherine helped deliver her grandson, who was born at 6:15 a.m. and greeted by about a dozen shoppers and store employees.

Several had disposable cameras to capture the event on film.

Throughout the ordeal, Shenna stayed calm.

She said, ``I just thought, 'I'm fixin' to be a mama now, I can't be scared.'''
Michael had many visitors from Wal-Mart while he was in the hospital, and the store donated several gifts. Shenna was so grateful for the help she received during the birth that she named the store's night manager, Adrian Wright, to be the godfather.
