MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA - Smoke blown from a swamp fire more than 300 miles away in Georgia hung over southeastern and south central Alabama Monday.
The haze covered skies from the Alabama-Florida border north to Montgomery.
The smoke comes from a fire in the Okefenokee swamp in Georgia that has burned since last Tuesday when a lightning strike inflamed dry wood.
David Frederick, director of the fire division for the Alabama Forestry Commission, said anyone with respiratory problems should state indoors until the smoke gets blown away, probably Tuesday.
The blaze spread over more than ten-thousand acres during the weekend.
The Forestry Commission issued a fire alert for the Southeast region of Alabama Monday.
The smoke moved to Alabama because of an unusual weather pattern that's blowing wind from east to west.
