CALHOUN - Gov. Roy Barnes declared a state of emergency Thursday in storm-ravaged parts of Gordon County.
Wednesday's storm, which the National Weather Service said included a tornado, damaged hundreds of houses and commercial structures, downed power lines and made some roads impassible, said Gary McConnell, director of the Georgia Emergency Management Agency.
``The emergency declaration allows state resources to be used to assist Gordon County in recovery efforts,'' McConnell said.
Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor planned to tour the damaged areas on Friday and meet with local officials.
