Ole Miss beats South Carolina; SEC roundup

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Mississippi got four runs on three home runs in the sixth inning to beat South Carolina 4-2 in Southeastern Conference action Sunday. <br> <br> South Carolina (37-11, 16-7) could get little offense going against freshman right-hander Alan Horne, who allowed only two hits in 7 1/3 innings. Trey Dyson, who had two of South Carolinas four hits, knocked a solo homer - his 14th of the year - in the second and picked up his second RBI on a single off reliever Adam Yates in the eighth. <br> <br> Mississippi (35-13, 14-10) put the Gamecocks away in the sixth with a two-run shot by Chad Sterbens, his fourth of the season, and then back-to-back solo shots by Burney Hutchinson his eighth and Josh Christian his seventh. <br> <br> Horne (5-1) picked up the win, while Steven Bondurant (5-3) was charged with the loss. <br> <br> T.J. Beam allowed only one hit in the ninth inning to earn his sixth save of the season. <br> <br> South Carolina still leads the SEC Eastern Division race. <br> <br> LSU 6, TENNESSEE 2<br> <br> KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE - Matt Heath hit a three-run homer to lead LSU to a 6-2 victory Sunday over Tennessee. <br> <br> The Tigers (33-16, 14-9 Southeastern Conference) were leading 3-2 when Heath homered in the fifth inning. <br> <br> Bo Pettit (6-6) picked up the win by working out of jams all game and overcoming six walks. <br> <br> Tennessee (24-25, 9-15) got a home run in the fourth inning by Hal Bibee Jr. The Vols&#39; other run came in the first inning on Ryan Moffett&#39;s ground out that scored Brandon Hopkins who had walked and advanced to third on a double by Walter Sevilla. <br> <br> Sean Barker and Chris Phillips each had three hits for LSU, which had 15 for the game. <br> <br> Dusty Johnson (2-1) took the loss, giving up six runs on 13 hits in 5 2/3 innings. <br> <br> FLORIDA 4, MISSISSIPPI ST. 0<br> <br> STARKVILLE, MISSISSIPPI - Pat Osborn had two hits and Keith Ramsey threw a one-hitter to lead Florida to a 4-0 win over Mississippi State on Sunday. <br> <br> Chad Henry had the only hit for Mississippi State (27-19, 11-12 SEC). <br> <br> Florida (35-13, 16-8 Southeastern Conference) got 5 hits from four batters. <br> <br> Ramsey&#39;s one-hitter a complete game improved his record to 6-2. He had 4 strikeouts. <br> <br> Joey Collums (3-5) took the loss. He allowed 3 hits and 3 runs in a little over 5 innings of work. Jonathan Papelbon gave up 1 run in relief. <br> <br> The Bulldogs&#39; one hit was a season low. <br> <br> Ramsey&#39;s one-hitter was a career first. <br> <br> AUBURN 7, VANDERBILT 6<br> <br> AUBURN, ALABAMA - Doug Vines broke a 6-6 tie in extra innings with an RBI single to lift Auburn to a 7-6 win over Vanderbilt on Sunday. <br> <br> With two outs, two men on base and the score 6-6 in the 10th inning, Vines singled to left center field, driving in Tug Hulett to give Auburn (30-19, 12-12 Southeastern Conference) the winning run. <br> <br> Sean Luellwitz led Vanderbilt (19-24, 4-18), going 4-for-5 with two RBIs. <br> <br> Arnold Hughey (2-2) earned the win in relief. Starter Eric Brandon pitched a little over five innings, allowing six hits and three runs and striking out six. <br> <br> Robert Ransom (0-3) got the loss, allowing one hit and one run in less than an inning of work. <br> <br> Trent Pratt was 2-for-5 with three RBIs for Auburn and Hulett was 2-for-5 with two RBIs. <br> <br> KENTUCKY 1, ARKANSAS 0<br> <br> FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS - Rob Corrado pitched a complete-game, two-hit shutout Sunday to lead Kentucky to a 1-0 victory over Arkansas. <br> <br> Gary Hogan Jr. (3-6) also pitched a gem, giving up one run on two hits over 6 2/3 innings. <br> <br> Corrado (1-2) struck out nine while giving up three walks and hitting a batter. He gave up a first-inning hit, and did not give up the other until the eighth. Hogan struck out six, gave up six hits and walked two. Two relievers left Kentucky hitless for the final 2 1/3 innings. <br> <br> Kentucky (16-29, 5-19 Southeastern Conference) manufactured its run in the seventh when Russ Rutherford hit a two-out double that scored Mike Ferris, who reached on a single. <br> <br> Arkansas (25-21, 8-13) had a scoring chance with two out in the sixth when runners on first and second advanced on a wild pitch. But Corrado struck out Ryan Fox to end the inning.
