Gordon County sorts through mess left by storm

CALHOUN - Crews continued working Monday to clean up the debris from a storm that ripped through Calhoun last week, causing an estimated seven million dollars in damage and leaving 20,000 homes and businesses without power. <br> <br> Governor Barnes declared a state of emergency in Gordon County after small tornadoes and winds up to 100 miles per hour last Wednesday brought down trees and power poles, destroying homes but injuring no one. <br> <br> Jennifer Collins, a spokeswoman for the Georgia Emergency Management Agency, said about 600 other homes and businesses remained without power Monday morning, and 500 still had no telephone service. <br> <br> Collins said, ``Its&#39; going to take weeks just to get the majority of the debris picked up and removed. It&#39;s amazing what has been accomplished since Wednesday, but there is still a long way to go.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> Schools were back open Monday after being closed Wednesday through Friday due to storm damage.
