MARIETTA - A Cobb County doctor was indicted in the July 2001 death of his ex-wife, whose body was found in the crawl space under the physician's Mableton home.
Eric Wooten's indictment, which took 10 months, was unsealed Thursday in Superior Court by Judge G. Conley Ingram. Chief District Attorney Tom Weathers said the delay was partly due to questions about proper jurisdiction.
The doctor was indicted on one count of malice murder that he allegedly caused his ex-wife's death by stabbing her with a sharp object and one count of felony murder, which alleges that while in the commission of the crime of aggravated assault, he caused Phyllis Wooten.
The couple was seen arguing in the parking lot of Wooten's practice in Clayton County the day before his ex-wife's body was found on July 10.
The doctor then disappeared with their two small children. Wooten turned himself in to the FBI in Baltimore July 20.
Wooten is being held without bail in Cobb County Jail.
