STARKVILLE, MISSISSIPPI - Defending national champion Tennessee and perennial power Arkansas were tied atop the men's standings after the third round of the Southeastern Conference Track and Field championships. <br>

The Volunteers and Razorbacks each finished Saturday's competition at Mississippi State with 50 points. <br>

Defending SEC champion Arkansas pulled out to a 15-point lead in the women's competition with 63 points. Florida is second with 48. <br>

Razorbacks junior Daniel Lincoln took first place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with an 8:44.07 mark after winning Friday's 10,000 meters. <br>

Tennessee's Rocky Daniels vaulted 17-feet-11 to upset defending SEC champ Chris Steddum of South Carolina in the pole vault and pick up 10 crucial points for the Volunteers. <br>

The Arkansas women also got a strong showing in the steeplechase, taking second and third behind Vanderbilt's Kylene Kownurko, who finished in 10:34.21. <br>

Shiloh Whiting claimed second for the Lady Backs in 10:38.44, while teammate Londa Bevins finished with a 10:41.50 timing. <br>

LSU's Walter Davis won the men's long jump in the first event of the day. His jump of 26-5 was nearly seven inches better than his closest competitor, Tennessee's Camron Howard. <br>

Defending NCAA long jump champion Elva Goulbourne of Auburn had a strong showing in the women's long jump, clinching the title with a jump of 22-4. <br>
<br>
Mississippi State sprinter Justin Gatlin posted the third-best collegiate 100-meter time this season in the preliminary round. Gatlin was one-hundredth of a second off the school record with a 10.07. <br>
<br>
In the women's 100-meter dash preliminary heats, LSU's Muna Lee registered her fastest time of the season with an 11.21. <br>
