ATLANTA - A 72-year-old woman died when fire swept through her southwest Atlanta home, authorities said.
Ellene Jackson, a retired Atlanta school teacher, was found on the floor of her bedroom. The pre-dawn fire Saturday destroyed more than half of the interior of her home.
Jackson apparently died of smoke inhalation, Atlanta Fire Department spokeswoman Jolene Butts-Freeman said.
Investigators are searching for the cause of the fire, which they said appeared to have started in the rear of the house.
