ATLANTA - A lawyer for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta said the archdiocese told Cobb County authorities about sex-abuse allegations involving a former church volunteer the day the accusations were made.
Questions have been raised about when officials at Saint Ann's Catholic Church in Marietta first learned of the allegations against Kenneth J. Cassity, who was asked to leave the church in August 2000.

Warrants for Cassity's arrest say the incidents occurred between July 1999 and December 2000. Three boys, then ages 14 to 16, said Cassity assaulted them at the Saint Ann's rectory.
David M. Brown, an Atlanta lawyer who represents the archdiocese, said two families met with church officials May Sixth to make the allegations, which is when archdiocese leaders learned of the case.
Brown said the archdiocese called the Department of Family and Children Services within two hours of receiving the information and called Cobb County Sheriff's officials later that day.
He said the archdiocese also located Cassity's Florida address and provided it to police.
