ALPHARETTA - Bail was set Tuesday in Bellingham, Wash. for an Alpharetta movie manager accused of theft. The $75,000 bail is close to the amount reported missing from the theater he managed.
Michael Joseph Houser, 23, of Roswell, was missing for more than a week before authorities stopped him Monday at the Canadian border, about 100 miles north of Seattle. Police also found $51,000 and a handgun in his newly purchased pickup truck.
''... to find him alive with a new truck and this quantity of cash was enough for us to pursue an arrest warrant,'' Alpharetta police officer Chris Lagerbloom said Wednesday.
Houser is accused of taking $75,000 in proceeds from the ``Spiderman'' movie. He was last seen May 5 at the United Artists Theater in Alpharetta. His car was found in a parking lot in Brentwood, Tenn. Police said he bought a truck in Tennessee before heading toward Canada.
Houser was stopped by customs agents while trying to enter Canada at the Blaine, Wash., border crossing, officials said. He was being held in nearby Bellingham, awaiting extradition proceedings.
