Georgia police arrest suspect's girlfriend

BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA - Georgia police arrested the 43-year-old girlfriend of an Alabama man suspected in the shooting deaths of five people in Alabama and Georgia. <br> <br> Meanwhile, Georgia officials also were looking into whether Donald Ray Wheat may have tortured and killed a pregnant woman at a sports bar near Atlanta on March 7, The Birmingham News reported for its Tuesday editions. <br> <br> However, Officer Gary A. Syblis, a spokesman for the Fulton County Police Department, said Wheat is not a suspect in the case so far. <br> <br> Tina Hooper Duke was charged Friday with robbery in connection with a holdup of a Bowdon, Ga., grocery store May 10 that left the store owner dead, said Chief Deputy Brad Robinson of the Carroll County Sheriff&#39;s Office. <br> <br> Duke, of Chambers County, drove the getaway car for Wheat, Robinson said. Wheat, 48, was charged with killing store owner Travis Richardson, 49, during the robbery. <br> <br> Robinson said Wheat shot Richardson in the chin and the back of the head before making off with an undisclosed amount of cash. Richardson was found behind the store counter. <br> <br> Wheat is also suspected of killing four men Wednesday in a Blockbuster Video holdup in Anniston. Police have said they will charge him with capital murder but hadn&#39;t done so on Monday. <br> <br> Authorities believe that a .38-caliber revolver dropped at the Blockbuster store also was used in the Georgia slaying. Robinson said investigators are waiting for ballistic tests. <br> <br> The four Anniston victims, including two employees and two brothers browsing for videos, were shot to death during the robbery, Anniston police said. Three of the four victims were shot in the back of the head. <br> <br> Barbara Kriewald, 34, and manager Michael Kirby, 27, were gunned down at the Sidelines Sports Grille in Sandy Springs, Syblis said. Kriewald, who was seven months pregnant, was tied up and repeatedly shocked with a stun gun before she was shot to death. Kirby, who was also shot, survived the robbery but remains paralyzed.
