New figures from the Census Bureau show that less than half of Georgians over the age five lived in the same home or apartment in 2000 as they did in 1995. Both Forsyth and Gwinnett counties have even lower rates.

Forsyth has the fifth highest rate at 56.9 percent. Gwinnett is ninth at 52.7. The state rate is 49.2 percent.

It continues a trend also seen in the 1990 Census.

The new Census also shows the state's increasingly diverse population, largely pushed by a 300 percent increase in the state's Hispanic population from 1990 to 2000.

The percentage of foreign-born Georgians rose to 7.1 percent in 2000 from 2.7 percent in 1990. The percentage of the population over five speaking English-only declined to 90.1 percent from 95.2 percent in 1990.

The data comes from Census 2000 demographic profile tables released Thursday. The results are based on answers to the long-form Census questionnaire, given to about one-in-six households nationwide.
