ATLANTA - A 15-year-old boy died Saturday after jumping from the back door of a school bus and landing on his head, authorities said.
Patken Lollis was trying to escape from a fight with another student on the bus Friday the last day of school for students at Harper-Archer High School. The school bus was not moving and so far no one has been charged in Lollis' death, said Atlanta Police Sgt. John Quigley.
Lollis' grandmother, Hazel Stovall, said the family has been hearing conflicting accounts of the accident from students who were riding the bus.
``I got him to 15 and now I don't know what to do,'' said Stovall, 73, who raised Lollis when his mother could not take care of him. ``He was all I had.''
Two other Harper-Archer students were killed this year, said Principal Sherman Lofton.
Junior Zavier Dinkins was killed in a robbery in October. Senior Kieyon Manns was killed shortly thereafter while playing with a gun, Lofton said.
``It has been a tough year,'' said Lofton, an 18-year veteran of school administration. ``I've never buried three students in one year.''
