AUGUSTA - Police were searching for a man who argued with a 22-year-old who was fatally shot outside a convenience store.
Henry L. Murray III went into the Mom & Pop's store on Thursday with two children, bought three soft drinks and left. Moments later, store clerk Julia Johnson heard three shots.
Johnson said she went outside and ``saw a bunch of people running.'' She found Murray fatally wounded.
Richmond County sheriff's Sgt. Steven Strickland said he found Murray lying near a coin-operated laundry. Murray, who was shot twice, was pronounced dead at the scene, Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen said.
Johnson said Murray had come in for change to use in the pay phone outside the store. He had a loud conservation with someone on the phone, she said.
``I could hear him all the way in here,'' Johnson said.
He then re-entered the store with the children, she said.
