DANIELSVILLE - A lawyer for a Madison County woman charged with the death of her 16-month-old son entered an innocent plea on her behalf Thursday.
Hope Bertha Buie, 22, faces two counts of murder and one count of giving false statements about the death of her son, Ceasar Bolton Jr., who was found unconscious on a mattress Sept. 29 in the family's Colbert home.
An autopsy discovered the boy died after his intestine was severed, suggesting he'd been beaten.
Buie did not appear in court for arraignment Thursday.
In April, a Madison County grand jury indicted Buie in connection with the toddler's death. A Georgia Bureau of Investigation medical examiner ruled the death a homicide.
Buie moved to Tampa, Fla., shortly after the child's death but returned to Georgia to turn herself in after the GBI took out warrants for her arrest in March.
She remains in Banks County jail. A trial date has not been set.
