RAMALLAH, WEST BANK - An explosion went off Tuesday in the building adjacent to Yasser Arafat's office, according to aides to the Palestinian leader who were inside the compound.
Nobody was inside the building, which was part of the Palestinian prison at the compound, said Tawfik Tirawi, head of Palestinian intelligence in the West Bank.
Earlier Tuesday, Palestinians said another explosion damaged the inside of a building within the compound but farther from Arafat's office. That building once was used as sleeping quarters for Palestinian security men.
``The Israelis have set off internal explosions inside the building beside us,'' Tirawi said. ``This building shared a wall with the president's office. If I'm reading the Israelis well, they want to destroy this wall so that they can easily enter the office.''
The Israeli army did not immediately comment.
