OLD BRIDGE, N.J. - One commuter bus crashed into another Tuesday morning, injuring at least 40 people, an NJ Transit spokesman said.
None of the injuries was life-threatening, spokesman Ken Miller said.
Both buses were heading north on Route 9 in central New Jersey, about 30 miles southeast of Manhattan, at about 7:45 a.m. when the first bus either slowed down or came to a stop and the second one struck it from behind, Miller said.
At least 38 of the 88 passengers were taken to hospitals, mostly with neck and back injuries. The drivers also were injured.
The buses were operating between Lakewood and Manhattan's Port Authority bus terminal.
The cause of the crash was under investigation.
