Motorist killed in high-speed police chase in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE - A Fayetteville veternarian was killed and two suspects were in custody Monday after a high-speed chase in Fayette County. <br> <br> The chase began just before 11 p.m. yesterday after two men robbed an Ingles grocery store off Georgia 92. The suspects, said to be twins, were identified as 22-year-old Melvin and Marvin Mitchell. <br> <br> Police were called to the scene and saw the suspects leaving the store. An officer chased the suspects into downtown Fayetteville. Lieutenant Tom Kirkbride said the officer chasing the suspects had begun to back off before the accident because he thought the speed was becoming excessive. <br> <br> The victim, 38-year-old Jason Trotman, a veterinarian, was at a traffic light at Georgia 85 and Jeff Davis Drive. He was killed when the suspects&#39; car slammed into the side of the vehicle. <br> <br> One suspect was slightly injured. The other was taken to the Fayette County Jail where they face charges of armed robbery and attempting to flee police.
