Auburn (22-8) scored in the third on a single from Doug Vines, driving in Sean Gamble, who led off with a triple. <br>

After a Mercer home run from Mike Appalucci, the Tigers scored again in the fourth when Javon Moran drove in Schuerholz. <br>

Mercer (14-16) had a two-out rally in the ninth, with a single from Jason Gaines and a scoring double by David Harwell. Kyle Levengood grounded out to end the rally and the game. <br>

Auburn reliever Andrew Skinner (1-1) took his first win of the season, allowing one run on four hits in one-and-a-third innings. Charles Bishop (2-1) took the loss, allowing two runs on seven hits in five innings. <br>

Auburn plays South Alabama at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
