VoiceStream slashing 155 Atlanta jobs in regional cuts

ATLANTA - Officials with wireless phone provider VoiceStream said Wednesday they plans to cut 155 jobs in Atlanta as part of consolidation efforts following the company's acquisition of Powertel last year. <br>

Company spokeswoman Kim Thompson said VoiceStream also plans to lay off 74 workers in Memphis, Tennessee, and 28 in Louisville, Kentucky, as part of the same effort, . <br>

The customer service and financial services workers were notified of the cuts yesterday. Thompson says the cuts are expected to be completed by June. <br>
<br>
VoiceStream is based in Bellevue, Washington, near Seattle. It is a subsidiary of German phone company Deutsche Telekom AG. <br>

It is one of eight wireless phone carriers operating in metro Atlanta.
