ROCK HILL, S.C. - Jeff Baker hit three homers, including a two-run shot in the bottom of the ninth to lead top-ranked Clemson past Winthrop 6-4 Wednesday. <br>

Clemson (25-1) immediately took the lead in the bottom of the first with Baker's two-run homer. He scored for the Tigers from second on a single by Jarrod Schmidt. <br>

Baker hit his second homer in the fifth inning, finishing with five RBIs. <br>

Winthrop (13-16) got on the board in the top of the first as Carlos de la Rionda scored on a grounder to second base by Stas Swerdzewski. <br>

Bennett Stapf pulled the Eagles within a run in the fourth with a deep shot over the left field fence. <br>
<br>
Winthrop made it a 4-3 game in the seventh inning as Todd Friedman hit his second double of the game to right center, scoring Brian Haney from first base. <br>

Matt Matkovich hit his first career-home run in the eighth inning, but it wasn't enough to catch the Tigers. <br>

Paul Harrelson (1-0) got the win for Clemson. Ryan Chenard (1-2) took the loss.
