Former Southern Co. exec got $8.7M after retiring

ATLANTA - Southern Company paid its former chairman and chief executive - A.W. ``Bill&#39;&#39; Dahlberg - a $2 million bonus and stock options worth $6.7 million last year. <br> <br> Dahlberg retired April 1st, 2001 after 41 years at Southern. The payments were released Wednesday in the company&#39;s proxy statement. <br> <br> Southern spokesman Marc Rice said Dahlberg&#39;s bonus was calculated as if he had worked for Southern for the full year. The policy applies to the energy concern&#39;s top five executives. <br> <br> Dahlberg also received a salary of $246,279 dollars for three months&#39; employment, plus $784,212 in other compensation. <br> <br> His successor - chairman and chief executive Allen Franklin - was paid $855,969 salary, plus a $1.87 million bonus and other compensation of $47,556.
