Ole Miss beats Arkansas State

OXFORD, MISSISSIPPI - Kyle Bateman threw four shutout innings and combined with four relievers on a five-hitter as Mississippi defeated Arkansas State 8-1 on Tuesday. <br> <br> Jonathan Swearingen&#39;s grand slam in the sixth inning put Ole Miss up 8-0. Swearingen went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a stolen base for the Rebels (30-8), who have won 15 of 16. <br> <br> Indians starer Jon Dove (2-3) allowed nine hits and seven runs in 5 1-3 innings. Brad Hayes was 2-for-4 with a run scored for Arkansas State (16-20). <br> <br> Bateman (3-0) struck out four and did not walk a batter. Adam Yates followed with two no-hit innings. Nick Bradshaw game up the only run and allowed two hits in his one inning of work. Mike Gray pitched the eighth and T.J. Beam got the final three outs. <br> <br> Seth Smith went 2-for-4 with an RBI to tie the Ole Miss freshman record for hits with 55, set last year by Matt Tolbert.
