Assistant principal named to succeed principal who died

LAWRENCEVILLE - Officials have named an assistant principal to head an elementary school in Gwinnett County where a principal killed herself last week. <br>

Carolyn Ford will run Simonton Elementary School near Lawrenceville, replacing Betty Robinson, who killed herself in the school office. Police found her body in her office about 2:30 a.m. Thursday. <br>

Gwinnett County Police spokesman Ray Dunlap said Robinson, 56, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. <br>

Ford is one of three assistant principals who has been running the school since Robinson's death. <br>
<br>
Robinson was principal of R.D. Head Elementary in Gwinnett County for six years before she was named principal when Simonton opened in 1993. She had been with the school district since 1979.
