ATLANTA - A 23-year-old man was fatally shot in the chest Thursday in a barber's chair near Clark Atlanta University, police said.
The man, who was not a student, was a customer at Center Stage Barber and Beauty Salon shortly before 5:30 p.m., detective Brett Zimrick said. The victim's name was withheld pending notification of relatives.
Police were searching for the gunman Thursday night.
Clark Atlanta is part of the Atlanta University Center, where students have been wary because of a series of crimes nearby. On April 8, a man visiting a student in the Heritage Commons apartments at Clark Atlanta was wounded in the chest by a suspect who fired through a window.
Joel Harrell, vice president of student affairs at Clark Atlanta, declined to comment on Thursday's shooting, saying it was ``inappropriate to comment on a crime that happened on a public street near our campus.''
