Jessie Curney the Third, senior executive pastor at New Birth, is creating New Mercies Christian Church in Gwinnett County.
Curney said he told New Birth's pastor, Bishop Eddie Long, that God has called him to start his own church.
The 37-year-old Curney was teaching youth Bible Study at New Birth in 1987 when he met Long. He watched membership grow over the next decade. The Lithonia church now has 25,000 members.
The first service at New Mercies Christian Church will be May 5th.
