UNC-Wilmington's Wainwright offered the Richmond job

RICHMOND, Va. - Jerry Wainwright resigned as the head basketball coach at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington on Wednesday to accepted the same position at Richmond. <br>

The 55-year-old Wainwright replaced John Beilein, who resigned Thursday to take the coaching job at West Virginia. <br>
<br>
In seven years at Wilmington, Wainwright has an overall record of 136-103, including a 23-10 mark last season when the Seahawks lost to Indiana in the second round of the NCAA tournament. <br>
<br>
Before taking over at Wilmington, Wainwright was an assistant at Wake Forest for nine years. <br>
<br>
Wilmington introduced assistant Brad Brownell as Wainwright's successor. <br>
<br>
"We certainly believe Brad is one of the top coaches in the country and will make an outstanding head coach," Wilmington athletic director Peg Bradley-Doppes said. "He has worked hand-in-hand with Jerry to elevate the program." <br>
