ATLANTA - Georgian's whose driver's licenses expire in July will be the first to have a chance to get them by mail rather than stand in line at a licensing station.
The Department of Motor Vehicle Safety will mail renewal forms for July birthdays beginning May 1. That will give drivers 60 or more days to get their licenses at the cost of a stamp.

``We think we are going to send about 18,000 a week out,'' department spokesman Susan Sports said. ``We are not sure at this point how many we are going to get back.''

The forms will not be forwarded if the license holder has moved. Driver's licenses are required to show proper addresses, so those who have moved will have to go into a station for a renewal, Sports said.
The mail-in renewals are part of Commissioner Tim Burgess' push to shorten long license lines. Another plan is to allow drivers to renew licenses using the Internet by the end of the year.
