ATLANTA - Gainesville radio station WDUN am550 was awarded the coveted Pacemaker Award by the Georgia Associated Press Broadcasters Association for class B radio Saturday in Atlanta.
This is the fourth year in a row the Jacobs Media owned station has won the award that is chosen from a points program of other awards won through the association.
Those other awards leading to the Pacemaker are. Best Newscast "7:30am Update", Best Spot News, Best General Reporting, Best Sportscast, Best Sports Play by Play and Best Sports Programming
Adding to the points system WDUN won honorable mention in the categories of Best General Reporting, Best Documentary and Best Newscast "6:30am Update".
Individual award winners included Jeff Hart, John Parks, Scott Kimbler, and Joel Williams. Also, Jerry Gunn, Ken Stanford, Garry Glenn, and, Robin Banks. And, Will Carswell, Chuck Clausen, Betsy Clausen, Gordon Higgins, Bill Maine, Bill Wilson, Sandy Griffin, and, Robbie Ross.
WDUN was also honored for Best Cooperation for contributions made through 2001 to the Associated Press.
Georgia Public Radio won the Pacemaker for Class A Radio.
Pacemakers were given to WXIA-Atlanta for Class A Television and WSAV-Savannah for Class B Television.
The GAPBA named former WDUN reporter Jennifer Griffies President of the Board, Griffies now reports for WGST-Atlanta and The Georgia News Network. She replaces outgoing President Susan Stone who is Special Projects Producer for WSB-TV-Atlanta.
The GAPBA banquet was held at the Westin Hotel Atlanta Airport. CNN anchor Leon Harris was the keynote speaker.
