OLYMPIA, WASHINGTON - Tipped off by DNA evidence, police arrested a man and charged him with a 29-year-old murder of a Seattle-area girl, officials said. <br>

Recent DNA evidence led to the arrest of 55-year-old William E. Cosden Jr. in the November 1973 death of 14-year-old Katherine Devine, the Thurston County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Friday. <br>

It is believed to be the oldest murder case in the state in which DNA evidence has been used, authorities said. <br>

Cosden, who has been serving a 48-year sentence since 1976 for first-degree rape, was arrested on Friday. He is being held in Thurston County Jail.
