ATLANTA - Natural gas prices in Georgia have fallen again this month as the end of the heating season approaches.
The top four marketers cut prices from 2 percent to 3 percent from February to March. The best rates offered are under 12-month, fixed-price contracts.
``We're likely to see prices trend downward as spring approaches,'' said Jeff Dickerson, spokesman for No. 2 marketer Scana Energy.
Dickerson said falling wholesale prices affected the rates. Prices fell last month because unseasonably warm temperatures reduced demand for gas nationwide.
Scana lowered its fixed-price rate by 13 percent, from 67.9 cents per therm to 58.9 percent. The company's variable rate is 69.9 cents in March, compared with 72.9 cents in February.
The rate of No. 1 marketer Georgia Natural Gas fell to 65.9 cents form 67.9 cents. The fixed price is 59.9 cents, down from 62.9
No. 3 marketer Shell Energy cut its variable price from 68.9 cents to 67.5, and its fixed price from 62.9 to 59.5 cents.
New Power Co., the fourth-ranked marketer, which is being taken over by the parent company of No. 5 Energy America, left its price unchanged from February - 58.9 cents per therm, locked in for one year.
