FORT MYERS, FLORIDA - Minnesota Twins pitcher Rick Reed missed his scheduled start Wednesday against the Atlanta Braves.
Reed returned home Tuesday night to be with his father, who is ill.
Twins general manager Terry Ryan says the team will give Reed as much time as he needs to be with his father.
The 36-year-old right-hander exercised his right to demand a trade back in November. Without a trade he would become a free agent by March 15 unless he rescinds his trade demand.
Right-hander Tony Fiore started in place of Reed and gave up one run on three hits in two innings of work.
