Add Mike Cubbage to the list of Boston Red Sox employees with interim in front of their titles.
The Red Sox fired manager Joe Kerrigan on Tuesday and replaced him for now with Cubbage, who soon may return to the third-base coach's box as the team intensifies its search for a permanent manager.
Kerrigan follows former general manager Dan Duquette, who was fired and replaced with interim GM Mike Port a day after John Henry's group bought the team on Feb. 27.
``This kind of decision is always difficult to make,'' Port said. ``We have the utmost respect for Joe, and admire his work ethic and his achievements as a pitching coach. ... We firmly believe that this action is in the long-term best interest of this franchise.''
Duquette promoted Kerrigan late last season after he fired Jimy Williams on Aug. 16.
