Man sentenced for burying body parts of murder victim

By
SPRINGFIELD - An Effingham County man was sentenced Wednesday to 60 days in jail and 10 years probation for burying the body parts of a Savannah woman who was dismembered by her father in November 1997.

Joe Aeger, 42, was convicted Feb. 20 of concealing a death, a felony, and tampering with evidence, a misdemeanor.

Defense attorneys argued that their client was afraid of Edward C. Wright and feared he would be killed if he reported that he had buried seven trash bags containing the remains of Francesca Wright, 28, in a hole for a septic tank in his yard. Aeger, who worked at Wright's construction company, waited 53 days before going to police.

Wright told investigators that he killed his daughter with a hatchet at his Wilmington Island home and dismembered her because he did not want her to move overseas with his 7-year-old granddaughter.

Wright pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to life without parole in October 2000.
